Abbreviated TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 2018 EDITION
With the 19th ANGELINA ALÓS CERAMICS BIENNALE OF ESPLUGUES, Es-
plugues Town Council wishes to continue promoting the presence of ceramics in our city. The terms and conditions for this competition were approved by Esplugues Town Council’s Governing Body on March 9 th, 2018.
1. ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to potters from any country in the world, entering either individually or in groups. The rules and conditions of this competition are deemed to have been accepted by participants by the mere fact of their entering the competition. Any circumstances not envisaged in these terms and conditions shall be decided upon by the Biennale’s organisers.
2. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SUBMITTAL OF WORKS
Each participant may submit up to three new works. Each work may comprise one or more pieces, which must be submitted together under a single title. The works submitted must be original and unpublished and made from ceramic materials. Industrial works or works from other competitions will not be accepted. Under no circumstances may works exceed 2 linear metres in their largest dimension or a total of 1 cubic metre in volume. The pieces submitted to the competition must be able to be displayed in the appropriate rooms and may never be replaced by still or moving images.
3. APPLICATIONS AND DOCUMENTATION
Applications for registration must be made online at: www.museus.esplugues.cat/biennal
The registration application must attach the artist’s CV and photograph. Each application must attach up to 3 digital photographs of each of the works submitted to the competition. The photographs must be submitted in JGP format, with good resolution and in a size of no more than 4 MB, and be taken on a neutral background. The name of each photograph must match the title of each work, numbered in order. All the documentation attached to registrations will belong to Esplugues Town Council.
4. DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION
The last day for the submission of applications shall be 30 June 2018.
5. COMMUNICATIONS WITH PARTICIPANTS
All individual communications and notifications sent to participants shall be sent to the e-mail address provided by the participant. Communications to participants as a group shall be posted on the website: www.museus.esplugues.cat/biennal (*)
6. SELECTION OF WORKS
The appointed Jury shall choose the works that are to be accepted for the competition, based on the documents sent, from among all the entries submitted. Its decision will not be subject to appeal, and the chosen participants shall be notified through the list of selected participants during the second fortnight of July at: www.museus.esplugues.cat/biennal (*)
7. DELIVERY OF SELECTED WORKS
The works admitted to the competition must be delivered to Can Tinturé Museum, from 24th to 29th September 2018, between 10 am and 2 pm and between 5 pm and 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. No works will be accepted outside these dates and times. The works must be adequately packaged in hard-wearing packaging so as to withstand their transport. Esplugues Town Council will accept no liability for any damage or breakages occurring as a result of transport and delivery. Broken works shall be excluded from the competition. The following information must appear on the outside of the packaging: “19th ANGELINA ALÓS CERAMICS BIENNALE OF ESPLUGUES”,
postal address, a photograph of the work with its title, and the registration number assigned to it. All costs arising from the shipment and delivery of the works that have been admitted, such as transport, customs, tax or any other costs of any kind, shall be borne by the participants. Esplugues de Llobregat Town Council shall not take any action in relation to the works sent other than receiving them at the address specified. Once the works have been duly delivered, the event’s organisers shall take all security measures available to them for the best possible conservation of the works.
8. AWARDS
The following awards, which have a financial component, are sponsored by the companies Nestlé España S.A., FIATC Assegurances and Soler i Sauret, S.A.:
A CITY OF ESPLUGUES AWARD, endowed with euros 4,000
B ANGELINA ALÓS AWARD, endowed with euros 3,000
C PUJOL I BAUSIS AWARD, endowed with euros 2,000
The prizes shall be subject to any tax retentions that may apply under the laws in force at the time they are given to the winners. There will also be a PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD, which will not have a financial component. The winners, including the winner of the People’s Choice Award, will be able to exhibit their works as a group during the year 2019 at the exhibition hall of the Association of Potters of Catalonia (Associació de Ceramistes de Catalunya), which is located in the city of Barcelona.
9. EXHIBITION
The selected works shall be displayed at Can Tinturé Museum from 26th October 2018 to 13th January 2019, and a paper and/or digital catalogue will be published. Works which are very complex to assemble and/or display must be adapted to the available spaces and resources.
10. PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD
In the course of the exhibition, the visiting public will have the chance to vote for their favourite of all the selected works. The result will be made public on the last day of the exhibition, and a diploma will be issued for the work with the most votes.
11. JURY
The Jury that is to make the selection and award the prizes shall be appointed by Esplugues Town Council and shall be composed of renowned experts in the world of pottery and art in general. Its decision will not be subject to appeal. The Jury reserves the right to exclude works from the exhibition if appropriate, even if they had already been selected.
12. DECISION AND AWARD CEREMONY
Esplugues de Llobregat Town Council will report the Jury’s decision in a public ceremony, to be held on Thursday, 25th October 2018 in the auditorium of La Masoveria in Can Tinturé Museum, and will award the prizes to the winning artists or their legal representatives. 13. RIGHTS TO THE WINNING WORKS AND TO ALL OTHER WORKS ADMITTED TO THE COMPETITION
Those works which have received a financial prize shall remain the sole property of Esplugues de Llobregat Town Council, although without prejudice to the copyright envisaged in the applicable legal provisions. By taking part in it, the authors of the works admitted to this competition authorise Esplugues de Llobregat Town Council:
- To disseminate the work, with the name, pseudonym or sign, or anonymously if applicable, stated when making the participation application.
- To make public communications of the works by any means appropriate for this purpose in accordance with their nature.
- To reproduce images of the works admitted to the competition, by any method or on any medium.
This authorisation is made for no consideration, and its scope is restricted to the promotion, exhibition, communication and/or publicity activities proper to the competition, in its various editions, or to the museum-related, cultural, cultural heritage or any other types of activities that may be organised or sponsored by Esplugues de Llobregat Town Council and any bodies that may be included in its public functions.
14. RETURN OF NON-WINNING WORKS
Works which did not win any prizes, as well as the work that wins the People’s Choice Award, must be removed between 16th and 23rd January 2019 between 10 am and 2 pm and between 5 pm and 8 pm from Monday to Saturday, at the same place where they were submitted. Works may be removed by their authors or by any person expressly authorised to do so or to represent them. In relation to any works that have not been removed by the end of the return period, it will be understood that the author waives his or her rights to the work and to remove it. Works that have not been removed will become the property of the Town Council for all legal purposes, with no right for the author to request their return or any compensation of any kind.
